OPERATION FOR TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING

Training and Capacity building

Training of machine operators, extension technicians, maintenance technicians and managers.

The basis for implementing the project is the establishment of Agrarian Service Centres distributed throughout the national territory, with the objective of enhancing the productive sector, favouring mechanisation, production processing and market access, in a macro dimension, focusing on the entire value chain (sowing, irrigation, harvesting, processing, packaging, food preservation, storage and transportation).

To this end, it is important to add synergies with the private sector, governmental and non-governmental institutions to maximise the program’s potential in terms of supplying inputs, technical training, conservation, adding value and marketing agricultural products.

The new technologies to be made available to the country with the introduction of Brazilian-made machines and equipment play a major role in increasing productivity in Nigeria.

However, due to this approach, to introduce new technologies in the country, on a scale not previously experienced, it is necessary that the correct knowledge of its characteristics and functionalities is properly understood by all interested parties in order to provide effective benefits. In this context, a training program for national extension workers is needed.

General purpose

Train national extension agents and service centre managers within a routine methodology that allows performance monitoring and technical guidance within the development strategies of the agricultural service centre model for the development of the market-oriented value chain.

EXPECTED RESULTS

• Significant improvement in meeting the demands for extension services for small and medium farmers;

• Increase in agricultural production and productivity in all regions of the country;

• Improved communication processes between service centre managers and government institutions

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

• Transfer of knowledge about the characteristics and functionalities of the technology package in the service centre model based on the value chain operated by the private sector for agricultural development;

• Create practical skills in the service centre’s work routines;

• Create models for monitoring and controlling Service Centre
operations;

• Maximise the use of technology in a sustainable manner;

• Establish a communication structure that allows information from
Service Centres to be made available for planning and policy formulation;

• Target Audience ;

• Nigerian graduates currently enrolled at NpowerAgro, youth
extension volunteers and managers or operators of private service centres.
